WebJun 18, 2024 · When rubber (I don't know the specifics, but I assume it's butyl rubber) gets old, it turns into one of two states usually: It becomes sticky and gummy. It becomes hard and brittle. I'd like to know if there's a way to change hardened or sticky rubber back into its original condition. WebI used a butane torch on lowest heat to go over the bottoms. Just enough that you can smell some burning rubber but not so long that you actually singe/burn the sole. If done right they will not look like they were touched by heat and should soften up a bit.
